  2. Definition: • An analogy is a comparison between two things that are alike in some way, but are otherwise NOT alike. Often, writers use analogies to explain unfamiliar subjects or ideas in terms of familiar ones.

  3. Analogy Questions • In an analogy question, the analogy is expressed using two group of words. The relationship between the first pair of words is the same as the relationship between the second pair of words. Some analogy questions are expressed like this: love : hate :: war : battle (is to) (as) (is to)

How to Answer Analogy Questionshat : head :: _______A. arm : leg C. shoe : footB. glove : foot D. shoe : glove • Figure out the relationship between the words in the first pair. • Express the analogy in the form of a statement or question. • Select the pair of words with the same relationship as the original pair. • A hat is an item of clothing that covers the head, a part of the body. • In hat : head the first word is an item of clothing, and the second word is the part of the body it covers. What other pair of words have that relationship? • A shoe is an item of clothing that covers a foot.
