  2. Beneficial Implications of a Decentralized Business Organization • Creates more local jobs. • Quicker decision making on the local level. • Products are more readily available to the local community. • Consumers have their needs filled quicker. • Maintenance issues or labor disputes would only shut down one local location instead of the central or global location.

  3. They are able to make quicker decisions. • Develop more loyalty from customers. • Keep up with what is trending in their industry. Many companies find that being located near their customers is a great way to have a more efficient business.

  4. Backcountry as an Example of Think Globally – Act Locally • Located near the ski industry. • Employs locals involved in the industry helps get the work out to others. • Employees given benefits that can help business stay in contact what is trending. • Many customers in the state of Utah so Backcountry is able to get products to customers as quickly as possible.

  5. Disadvantages of Think Globally-Act Locally • Relocation of personnel/property/materials to other countries is costly process even with successful placement. • Without established ties in a foreign community you’re business will struggle to grow. • Different cultural environments require that advertising and promotional campaigns are adapted / localized**. • **adaptation and localization of said campaigns are costly. • Different Countries hold different product and trademarked names and brands that could conflict with your company.

  6. Without quick decisions at the local level, important business opportunities will be missed • No time for delay/no margin for error when dealing with customers. • A lot of financial and organizational support is essential for solutions and business endeavors to become reality. Today’s companies MUST have a local presence to serve local needs.

  7. Leadership Strengths • Utah takes pride in their land. We come from a rich heritage and we know how to honor that heritage. • We are a tight nit community more than a state. We perform as a family does; caring and giving. • We believe in the bonds of family and working hard. Think Globally – Act Locally

  8. Leadership Strengths • Working hard does pay off • Working for family is something to take pride in • Working from “heart” goes a long way. Think Globally – Act Locally

  9. Insights from Chief Joseph • Chief Joseph is a man of peace who has asked that he and his people be left in peace, to live on the land of their ancestors. He urges his people to follow a path of peace as well. • This accord continues even after white men steal their horses and cattle, and even move onto their land—but no one stands up for the rights of the people.

  10. When the government sends the military, led by General Howard, there is no respect shown to Chief Joseph and his people. • Men have killed some of the members of their tribe. • Howard is unmoved and demands that the Nez Percés move or suffer the consequences. He will not even allow the people to remain to harvest their crops so they can survive the winter.

  11. The Nez Perez live by many rules. Two of their main rules are to: 1. Never be the first to break a bargain 2. Speak only the truth People that work in decentralized businesses need to be able to trust those that work above them and below them.  What a miserable place it would be to work where no one could be trusted.
