  2. Size of Halley’s Comet • Halley is about 9 miles long and about 5 miles thick. It is also the shape of a peanut.

  4. Surface Composition • Halley’s Comet is gaseous, so our spacecraft will have to orbit it and only take pictures of it.

  5. Temperature • Every 76 years, Halley’s Comet speeds around us. Vega 1 read it to be -600 – 116 degrees Fahrenheit.

  7. Other Facts • Halley's Comet was last seen in 1986 and will next appear in mid 2061. During 1986, Halley’s Comet became the first comet to be seen by a detailed spacecraft.

  8. Other Facts There was also a group that killed themselves because of Halley’s Comet. When they saw it pass by they thought the world was going to end, so they drank this purple juice that would kill themselves in their sleep. The group name was Heavens Gate (They were a religious group).

  9. Other Facts • Halley’s Comet has a combination of dusty materials that are non-explosive. • Also, short period comets need about 200 years to complete one orbit.
