The CSIR NET eligibility criteria are generally determined by Educational qualification, nationality and age. Candidates who want to apply for CSIR NET as of 2023 must have an MSc degree or equivalent degrees like B Tech, B pharma or MBBS, with a minimum of 55% marks. If a candidate is ineligible for any stage, then he/she will not be able to appear for the CSIR NET examination. The eligibility criteria for the same depending on the age limit, educational qualification and nationality. The candidate who is willing to apply for the CSIR NET exam must be an Indian citizen and should be a maximum of 28 years old (33 years for ST/SC/Female Candidates and 31 years for OBC). Age limit: As of July 1, 2023, the maximum age limit for a candidate applying for the CSIR NET exam is 28 years for the general category. Although, the reserved category, it is di?erent. For ST, SC, Female Candidates and Physically disabled Candidates, the upper age limit can be relaxed up to five years. However, for OBC, the upper age limit can be relaxed up to 3 years. Nationality: Candidates applying for CSIR NET in the year 2023 must be Indian Citizen. If the candidate is found holding citizenship of any other country, then he/she will not be able to apply for the examination. ?. Educational Qualification: Candidates willing for CSIR NET in 2023 must hold a degree in B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ MSc/ MBBS/ BS- 4/ Integrated BS-MS or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks. Candidates currently pursuing their MSc are also eligible to apply for CSIR NET examination under the result awaited category. Candidates who belong to the reserved category are given a 5% relaxation in the marks, which means they will get eligible if they attain at least 50% marks. Along with that, candidates who have completed a B.Sc and are enrolled in an Integrated MS-PhD programme with a minimum of 55% marks are eligible to apply.

Candidates must indicate their preference for JRF or LS based on their eligibility. While applying for the CSIR NET examination, if a candidate is found to be over-aged, then he or she will only be considered for Lectureship and not for Research. As of 2023, Candidates who apply for JRF but also meet the CSIR NET eligibility requirements for Lectureship will be considered for both positions. Once a candidate enters their Option in their CSIR NET application form, it is considered final, and no later requests for changes will be entertained.
