An Overview of the Nigerian Media • Nigeria has the biggest and most virile Media community in Africa, followed by South Africa and Kenya • PRINT – over 100 functional ones (Daily, Weekly, Magazine, Trade, Soft sell, etc) • The Print Media are classified into three major tiers (1, 2 & 3), specialized and local or Regional publications • About 6 publications make up Tier 1

Highlights - Digital • Current Internet users stand at 12 million • Nigeria is the largest Telecom market in Africa with upwards of 70 mn users. • Internet and mobile are finally becoming significant media options in Nigeria, For specific target groups in Nigeria the reach of internet (~40%) is higher than newspaper reach • A million Nigerians already accessing FACEBOOK and over 8 million YAHOO! users is a harbinger to the potential of the medium. • Virtually all Nigerian newspapers have an internet presence; in addition, there are several websites which are dedicated to allowing Nigerians to air their opinions on a variety of topics. • However, with the current penetration of the internet in Nigeria, radio, TV and newspapers remain the primary means of consuming information in the country.
