Aperture • Aperture is a hole or an opening inside the lens through which light travels into the camera. It also controls how much light gets into the camera. You can control the size of the aperture by changing F-Stops in a camera. To change the aperture you have to put it into manual mode. F – stop = focal length of the lens Aperture opening of the lens. Smaller opening = less light Bigger opening = more light
Shutter Speed • Shutter speed represents the time that the shutter remains open while taking picture. less time the shutter remains open. Less light. more time the shutter remains open. More light. Shutter speed is measured in seconds or fractions of seconds. These are full stops of shutter speed 1/250 seconds. 1 second ½ second 1/45 seconds 1/8 seconds 1/15 seconds Slower Faster How shutter speed is displayed in a camera : 1” 2 4 8 15 30 Slower Faster The faster the shutter speed, the sharper a moving object will be. 1 second ½ second 1/45 seconds 1/8 seconds 1/15 seconds 1/30 seconds Slower, blurrier the moving object. Faster, sharper the moving object The faster the object is moving the faster shutter speed you need to freeze the motion.
ISO • ISO measures the sensitivity of the sensor or film to light. the smaller the ISO = less sensitive to light sensor is. the bigger the ISO = more sensitive to light sensor is. These are full stops of ISO : 100 200 400 800 1600 3200 less sensitive more sensitive - low noise ( grain) - more noise ( grain ) - Sharper image - less sharper image - richer colours - dull colours - outdoor photography - row lights with no flash ( indoor, concerts, sports events ) - photography with flash - using very fast - low exposures ( slow shutter speed ) - shutter speed
