  1. Flower Power Question When I change the amount of alcohol and water, what will happen to the flower seeds? Topic In this experiment, we wanted to see if seeds would change growth patterns if alcohol was used instead of water. Alcohol can be deadly if overused. It can lead to alcohol addiction, vomiting, blacking out, cancer, and death. Over a course of five days, we were able to determine an answer to our hypothesis by experimenting and observing 6 containers of seeds in different amount of water and alcohol levels. Our hypothesis was that the seeds growth patters would change. Experimental Design For this experiment, we filled five containers with pea seeds and different amounts of water and alcohol. Container 1 held 100% alcohol. Container 2 held 80% alcohol. Container 3 held 60% alcohol. Container 4 held 40% alcohol. Container 5 held 20% alcohol. Container 6 held 0% alcohol. Each container held five seeds in each of the four sections. Data We counted our seeds after a course of five days. Containers 1, 2 and 3 showed no signs of growth. Container 4 had 7 out of 20 seeds sprout. Container 5 had 13 out of 20 seeds sprout. Container 6 had 18 out of 20 seeds sprout. Results We found that after five days the containers with a small amount of alcohol (containers 4, 5, and 6) sprouted seeds, while the containers with a large amount of alcohol (containers 1, 2, and 3) did not sprout seeds. This conclusion proves our hypothesis, that the seeds would change growth patterns if alcohol was used instead of water. This proves that alcohol is dangerous and can kill you.
