Clothing • Knee high pants called breeches • Dark colored stockings • A short coat called a doublet • To keep their pants up they tied their breeches to their doublet • All clothes were hand woven and colored with dye • Common colors they wore were red, green, burgundy, blue, violet, black, and brown • Large felt hats

  3. Chores and Responsibilities • Fetched wood and water • Herded chicken • Helped their fathers prepare the fields for planting, then sow the seeds, weed, and harvest • Tended to livestock, hunted, fished, and die the woodworking that was needed

  4. School • No formal schools • Taught reading and writing by their parents • Many parents used the bible to teach their children how to read

  5. Games • Shooting marbles • Ball and Cup • Naughts and Crosses (Tic Tac Toe) • Nine Men’s Morris (Board Game)

  6. Food • Indian corn • Deer, rabbit, turkey, geese, and duck • Chicken, goat, sheep, and cows • Sugar, spices, oil and vinegar were sent over on ships yearly • Milk was usually turned into butter or cheese or cooked with to make tasty grain porridges • Average Day • Breakfast-bread and butter or cheese • Dinner- a thick porridge or bread made from Indian corn and some kind of meat, fowl or fish • Supper-leftovers from dinner

  7. Housing • Wooden frames with steep roof • Roof allowed for storage and a sleep area above the main room • Houses were finished with wooden boards • The roof was either made of thatch or straw • Inside the house was a main room for living, eating, sleeping • The homes normally had a fireplace
