  1. Expectations of the Faculty For the most part, faculty are very concerned about students. SRU maintains a strong emphasis on teaching and teaching excellence.

  2. Expectations of the Faculty • Provide syllabus • Contract with the professor andstudent • Contains • Learning outcomes (what you should be able to accomplish after taking the course) • Evaluation methods – exams, projects, reports, quizzes, etc – how you are graded • How many points for the course • Other course policies

  3. Expectations of the Faculty • Evaluation methods • Sometimes students are not used to having a variety of assignments or assignments with long term due dates • Many professors have projects that take the entire semester to complete • You may be evaluated by more than just examinations

  4. Office Hours Maintain a minimum of 5 posted office hours per week • If students don’t know if or what they are doing, it is OK to see the faculty member during office hours. Get help. • If students say the faculty member wasn’t available, ask – did you go during Office Hours! • Maybe the students walked by , hoping they would see the faculty member! A better strategy is to go during office hours or go to see if the professor has appointment lists on their office door. If for some reason they can’t find the faculty member, go to the department chairperson and tell the chair. • Students can call, leave voice messages, e-mail. • Students often want the faculty to be available right then and make it convenient for the student – faculty simply may not be available if running to another class at that moment.

  5. Know your professors and ask for help!
