Executive Summary • The Summit featured five keynote speakers complemented by an executive panel dialogue • Additionally, ten featured sessions offered information on priority topics from industry leaders and experts. • On Wednesday, September 10, seven full-day seminars and one half-day intensive workshop provided a more intense learning opportunity for participants.

  5. Executive Summary (cont.) • Each of the 137 workshops offered insights on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Ally (LGBTA) issues in today’s ever-changing workplace environment. • Workshops were designated as beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

Executive Summary (cont.) • To encourage Summit attendees to keep connecting after the Summit, an online meeting place was established that provides presenters and attendees of the 2008 Workplace Summit with a shared calendar, workshop materials, audio recordings, discussion forums, photo gallery, and member profiles designed to keep the conversation and programs aimed at advancing workplace equality for all.   • The ‘2008 Out & Equal Workplace Summit’ groupsite on CollectiveX houses ten discussions, and members are encouraged to add other topics as appropriate. Within each discussion group, an individual topic has been created for each of the 155 unique educational experiences (workshops, seminars, and featured sessions). Presenters are encouraged to post their outlines, slides, video links, and supporting documents while attendees are provided a platform for follow-up questions or comments.  Additionally, the groupsite provides an opportunity for presenters to respond to questions or concerns while also monitoring the discussion outandequalsummit2008.collectivex.com/join

  10. Keynote Speakers – Carson Kressley Accomplished stylist, breakout television star, equestrian, author and now fashion designer, Carson Kressley is out to make-over the world. Kressley is one of the stars of the hit original series "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" for the Bravo Network. He is also a New York Times best-selling author of the "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" companion book. His sharp wit and undeniable sense of style made him one of the standouts of the show. Airing in over 95 countries, the cultural impact of the show has proven to be tremendous, helping to bring gay culture to mainstream American audiences. Kressley’s current television projects include CW's "Crowned" and Lifetime's "How to Look Good Naked." Kressley recently launched, to great success, his new collection of women's wear and men's wear, Perfect by Carson Kressley, exclusively on QVC. In addition to doing his part in helping to bridge the gap between peoples of different genders and sexual orientations, Kressley is an avid philanthropist, championing a wide array of charities and organizations. A strong supporter of many gay rights causes, he lends his celebrity to the Human Rights Campaign Federal Club, the 2004 AIDS Walk in New York City, GLAAD (The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), Heritage of Pride, Inc., The Trevor Project and GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network.)

Keynote Speakers – Keith Boykin Keith Boykin is the editor of The Daily Voice newspaper and host of the BET television show My Two Cents, a New York Times best-selling author of three books, and a frequent political commentator on CNN. Keith has been actively involved in progressive causes since he worked on his first congressional campaign while still a student in high school. He is a veteran of six political campaigns, including two presidential campaigns, and he was named one of the top instructors when he taught political science at American University in Washington. Keith has traveled extensively across four continents, and in 1997 President Clinton appointed him, along with Coretta Scott King and Rev. Jesse Jackson, to the U.S. presidential trade delegation to Zimbabwe. Each of Keith's three books has been nominated for a Lambda Literary Award, including his most recent book, Beyond the Down Low: Sex, Lies and Denial in Black America. Keith won the Lambda Literary Award for his second book, Respecting The Soul, while his first book, One More River to Cross, is taught in colleges and universities throughout the country.

  12. Keynote Speakers – Michael Guest Michael Guest hasenjoyed a distinguished career serving his country in the U.S. Department of State from September 1981 through December 2007. Across his 26-year career as a Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Guest held a range of demanding executive-level assignments. Overseas, he served with distinction as U.S. Ambassador to Romania (2001-04); Deputy Chief of Mission in the Czech Republic (1996-99); and Deputy Political Counselor in France (1991-94). In Washington, he served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, then Acting Assistant Secretary, for Legislative Affairs (1999-2001). Washington assignments also included a stint as Deputy Executive Secretary of the State Department (1994-96) and, during the Reagan Administration, White House Assistant Press Secretary (1985-86). During his last assignment, as Dean of the Leadership and Management School (2005-07), Mr. Guest developed a range of leadership training opportunities for the men and women of the Department of State, including at senior levels. As U.S. Ambassador to Romania, Mr. Guest played a critical role in shaping that country’s successful preparations for NATO membership – drawing on earlier efforts, as Deputy Chief of Mission, to focus the Czech Republic’s preparations for joining the Alliance. His extensive background in European security policy also includes service as Deputy Director for Political Affairs in the Office of European Security and Political Affairs (1989-91), where he was responsible for political discussions at NATO; organized U.S. participation in and strategy for the then-Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE). Mr. Guest also worked in the Political Section of our Embassy in Moscow (1987-89).

  13. Keynote Speakers – Don Knauss Donald R. “Don” Knauss was named chairman and chief executive officer of The Clorox Company in October 2006. As CEO, he has overall responsibility for directing the company's worldwide business, which generated revenues of $4.8 billion in fiscal year 2007. Prior to joining Clorox, Knauss spent 12 years with The Coca-Cola Company. He joined the company in 1994 as senior vice president of marketing for The Minute Maid Company, and, in 1996, was promoted to senior vice president and general manager for Minute Maid's U.S. retail operations. Beginning in 1998, Knauss served nearly two years managing Coca-Cola's businesses in 10 countries of Southern Africa. In 2000, he was named president and chief executive officer of The Minute Maid Company. He became president and chief operating officer of Coca-Cola North America in 2004. Knauss previously held a variety of positions in marketing and sales with the Frito-Lay and Tropicana divisions of PepsiCo, Inc. He began his business career as a brand manager in the paper products division at Procter & Gamble. Prior to that, he served as an officer of the United States Marine Corps.

  14. Keynote Speakers – Arianna Huffington Arianna Huffington is a nationally syndicated columnist, author of eleven books and co-founder and editor of the HuffingtonPost.com. She is also co-host of "Left, Right & Center," public radio's popular political roundtable program. Her weekly commentary is syndicated in newspapers across the country by Tribune Media Services. She launched The Huffington Post, an Internet publishing venture featuring an innovative group blog where some of this country's most creative minds weigh in on topics great and small, political and cultural, important or just plain entertaining. Originally from Greece, she moved to England when she was 16 and graduated from Cambridge University with an M.A. in economics. At 21, she became president of the famed debating society, the Cambridge Union.
