  2. Spiritual Works of Mercy • They call us to care for the spiritual life of others. • They are more important that the corporal works of mercy, since the soul—the spiritual part of man—is eternal.

  3. Admonish the sinner • This is helping another to realize his sin and to seek forgiveness. • To review the horror of sin—it separates us from God. • It kills the life of grace in our souls (risking hell).

  4. Instruct the ignorant • Helping someone understand the truths about God and the faith • Nourishing the spiritual life.

  5. Council the doubtful • Giving advice or guidance • To help people to walk in the ways of faith and hope

  6. Comfort the sorrowful • Suffering is a part of life because of original sin. • Those who suffer in union with Christ share in his glory. • Sometimes, people need encouragement in their sufferings. • We can help others to ease their burdens in their time of suffering.

  7. Bear wrongs patiently To suffer injustice and accept the wrong done, instead of doing another wrong ourselves.

  8. Forgive all injuries We must forgive those who injure us, imitating Christ’s love and mercy.

  9. Pray for the living and the dead This is an act of love for other members of the Communion of Saints.

  10. What should you do? • Your friend is going to throw a party when his parents are away. • Your friend asks about a religious picture in your house. • Your friend is angry at God because his relative died. • Your friend’s boyfriend broke up with her. • You are being punished because your friends were caught drinking at a party—but you weren’t. • Your best friend was talking about you behind your back, and is now sorry because he sees how upset you are. • You uncle does not believe in God. • Your grandmother died and it is the anniversary of her death.
