  2. Characteristics • The Gray Wolf is 4½ to 6½ lbs. • The Gray Wolf weighs 25-59 kg. • The color of the Gray Wolf is grizzled gray, black, or all white.

  3. Lifespan • The Gray Wolf’s lifespan is 7-8 years in the wild. • Some live up to 10 years or more.

  4. Eating Habits/Diet • The Gray Wolf eats elk, deer, moose, caribou, beavers, rabbits, and other small prey. • The Gray Wolf is a carnivore.

  5. Population • The population of the Gray Wolf is between 7,000-11,200 in Alaska. • 5,000 live in the lower 48 states . • People estimate there are only 200,000 in 57 countries compared to 2 million a long time ago.

  6. Habitat/Range • The Gray Wolf’s range is common through North America. • Many were killed in the United States during the mid 1930’s. • Gray Wolves live in forests and on plains.

  7. Adaptations • One adaptation of the Gray Wolf is its ears. These help them hear when prey is near. • The second adaptation is its teeth that help them rip prey. • The last adaptation is its eyes that help them see where they are going.

  8. Fun Facts! • Some fun facts about the Gray Wolf is that the only mating season is January-February. • Another fun fact is the litter size is 4-7 pups at one time.

  9. Endangered Because • The Gray Wolf is endangered because people misunderstand them and kill the wolves.
