CDF D&D Status J. Lewis 1/23/12
Progress • First floor counting room • Racks nearly all removed • Next step is underfloor cables • May defer • Major equipment • Motor generators, COT gas filter system, test magnet gone • Old chillers refrigerant removed • High bay • West side cabinets gone • Mezzanine ready for demoltion • East side clean-up done late February • Control room display computers installed
Headaches • ODH • Can’t declassify until tunnel is • Waiting to disconnect equipment • Manpower • Techs removed to other projects • May get worse with shutdown • Progress has slowed • Planning • How to proceed in light of ORKA opportunity? • Plan for temporary tour program? What scope?
CDF → ORKA • Roll out central detector • Strip electronics • Remove tracker • Refurbish solenoid • Dismantle central calorimeter • Send to BNL for PHENIX upgrade? • Dismantle Cable Bridge • Dismantle muon walls • East and west torroids, north and south walls • Wild guess $1-2M M&S • Messy, stinky job
Timeline: CDF → ORKA/IARC • Goal? • Early occupancy of high-bay and pit by IARC • Option: • Rehab detector early • Return to hall • Install ORKA detector package in situ • Engineering needed early • Support detector weight off Tevatron beamline • Are there pilings to bedrock or not? • In situ Installation
CDF → Tourist Trap • Move west plug to new support structure • Static support for north wall • Move display items to passage area • Remove cable bridge with detector in place • Plan on shelf • Makes detector removal difficult • Life safety work • $115k • At least 90% necessary even for temporary tour program • Excludes stairwell work that J. Priest says should be done for any reuse of building
