  1. Benefits of using Ipads as a distraction or learning tool for behavioural challenged students.

  2. Behavioural challenged students can include those with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, ODD and EBD. • These students find it challenging to sit through lessons without exhibiting inappropriate behaviour.

  3. What is inappropriate behaviour • Yelling • Hitting • Biting • Throwing things • Answering back • Annoying other students • Walking around the classroom • Swearing

  4. Ipads as a distraction tool • Using iPads as a distraction tool allows the student to refocus on the task at hand. - Most teachers can recognise the signs of an impending meltdown and this allows them to redirect the students attention.

  5. Appropriate Use • There are appropriate ways to use the iPad as a tool for behavioural challenge students. - Use apps that relate to the lesson at hand. - Make sure apps are age-appropriate

  6. Rules and Consequences • Make sure rules are set out for the student BEFORE they start using the iPad. - Rules should be clearly displayed either in the classroom or at the students’ desks, along with consequences if these rules are broken. (see Diagram 1)
