What is International Adoption? International Adoption also known as overseas adoption is when a couple or single parent goes to a different country to adopt a child and bring them back to their homeland.
INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION International adoptions are the majority of adoptions that Canadian couples and singles arrange today. More children are available overseas than in Canada. International adoption gives the parents a higher chance of finding a baby to adopt.
Why people choose to adopt children from another country People choose to adopt internationally because there's a greater chance of getting a child who's younger. There are no concern about contact towards the birth parents. People adopt internationally because they want to do something to change a persons life, by giving a child a home and something to appreciate. People also decide to adopt overseas when they are unable to have children of their own.

Unlike domestic adoptions in Canada where you have the option of searching for a child yourself, sometimes with overseas adoptions your agency takes charge and finds you a child. While choosing the agency the parents have to choose which country they want to adopt from The most popular source of overseas infants for Canadians has been China, Russia, Vietnam, and Korea. After choosing a country, the parents then decide how they want their child, what age, gender , race and health.
The Process Although the adoption requirements and process varies from one country to another, the basic steps are : Get an information package from an adoption agency explaining adoption program. Attend the information sessions. Complete a home study. Prepare your records of necessary documentation. Send your records to your agency, Complete immigration paperwork to sponsor the child to come to Canada. Contact your physician for immunizations. Send a written acceptance to the country of origin. Book a flight and process a travel visa. Fly to country to pick up child. Process and finalize adoption in child's country of origin. Process the immigration papers. Return home with the child. Undergo post-placement supervision with adoption practitioner. Obtain birth certificate and adoption order from provincial court.
Time Line An international home study takes about six months to a year to complete. Depending on which country the parent(s) choose and how quickly they can get their application ready. Parents most likely are kept waiting a few years before bringing their baby home.
The Costs It is very expensive to adopt a child internationally usually starts from 25 000 and greater. The parent(s) will be held to pay the: Administrative and legal cost Translation Motorization Travel And medical expenses. Coasts also vary depending on how much time the parent(s) spend in the international country
Advantages Many of the children are abandoned or live in orphanages so the adopted parent(s) don't have to worry about the birth mother changing her mind and wanting to take the child to raise herself. There are more children available, the competition is less intense. When adopting in Canada there are various test done, while overseas all they need is a valid home study and you then qualify.
Disadvantages The children will likely have experienced a lack of stimulation, poor nutrition, and physical and/or sexual abuse. They may suffer from developmental, social or emotional problems. Older children have a harder time adjusting to a new culture and language. High risk children will require extra help and attention and will severely test your parenting skills.
Disadvantages Many children adopted from overseas experience the same sense of loss and grieving as children who have lost a parent. Some children may wonder what happened to their parents or decide to search for them one day. Joining a support group can help parent(s) deal with many of these issues. Also reading books of the child's background and culture can make the parent more equipped when it comes to the child.

Madonna On October 10, 2006, Madonna filed adoption papers for a boy from an orphanage, David Banda Mwale. He was later renamed David Banda MwaleCiccone Ritchie. The adoption raised strong public reaction, because Malawian law requires would be parents to reside in Malawi for one year before adopting, which Madonna did not do. She addressed this on The Oprah Winfrey Show, saying that there were no written adoption laws in Malawi that regulated foreign adoption. She described how Banda had been suffering from pneumonia after surviving malaria and tuberculosis when she first met him. Banda's biological father, Yohane commented, The adoption was finalized on May 28, 2008.
Ozzy Osbourne Robert Marcato born on November 21. Was adopted by Ozzy Osbourne. He first was a family friend until his mother died. Ozzy Osbourne and his family decided to take him in and make him their son. The Osborne's tried their best to make him part of the family, because they believed that no one should grow up alone.
Hugh Jackman Hugh jackman adopted two children Oscar Maximillian born 15 May 2000 and Ava Eliot born 10 July 2005. Hugh jack man and his wife were not able to have their own children so they adopted internationally. They thought that it would be painful because it wasn’t going to be their own but they decided to go along with their plan and now they have two children that they love as if it were their own.
Angelina Jolie On March 10, 2002, Jolie adopted her first child, seven-month-old Maddox Chivan, from an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He was born as RathVibol on August 5, 2001, in a local village. Jolie applied for adoption after she had visited Cambodia twice, the adoption process was halted in December 2001 when the U.S. government banned adoptions from Cambodia. Once the adoption was finalized, she took custody of Maddox in Namibia. Angelina adopted Maddox as a single parent. Jolie adopted a daughter, six-month-old Zahara Marley, from an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on July 6, 2005. At the time of the adoption, Zahara was wrongly believed to be an AIDS orphan and it was unknown whether she herself had contracted HIV, but she later tested negative. On March 15, 2007, Jolie adopted a son, three-year-old PaxThien, from an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He was abandoned soon after birth. Jolie adopted Pax as a single parent, because Vietnam's adoption regulations do not allow unmarried couples to co-adopt. Angeline Jolie chose to adopt three children from three different countries. Angelina decided to start adopt when she would travel as a U.N Goodwill Ambassador, she met children that were dying from diseases that could have been prevented Angelina saw she could do something about it and she did.
