  2. Emotional & Social Development/Desarrollo Social/Emocional • Emotional displays are associated with child’s goals: • Las muestras de emocion son relacionados a lasmetas del niño: se disgustacuando hay interrupción en susactividades.

  3. Su enojotienepróposito/sentido. • Autonomy/Autónomia- a sense of self governing or personal control over their immediate environment; defiance & negative responses from the toddler are typical El sentido de quetieneindependencia el niño, y control sobresuambiente {inmediato}.

  5. Piaget’s 6thsubstage • Mental Representations • Child first thinks about the possibilities & selects the action which most likely to achieve the desired outcome • Language: are mental representations we have of objects, people, actions, & ideas

  11. Ways toddlers use their limited language 1) Overextension- one word represents a variety of related objects 2) Underextension- using a general word for a specific object

  12. Vygotsky & Speech • Occurs when children learn in ZPD • Private speech- children talk to themselves in a self-guiding & self-directing way • Used to work through new concepts & experiences
