  11. Pre-saccadic attention • Attention may operate without saccades, but saccades cannot be planned without attention. Evidence indicates that attention will shift to the goal of a saccade while saccadic planning is underway. • Enhanced processing of the targets of saccades starts even before the eyes begin to move. • Improvements in performance in visual discrimination tasks, starting 100 ms before a saccade.

RTs at cued locations increased significantly when stimulus eccentricity shifted from 15° to 20°, leading to a much stronger IOR effect at more peripheral regions compared to central and perifoveal regions, indicating a functional dissociation between these two regions of the visual field • Similar difference along vertical meridian at approximately 7°
