  1. Winds of Doctrine Great Doctrinal Errors

  2. Because… • Ephesians 4.14a {14} that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine…

  3. Great Doctrinal Errors • All Jews will be saved • Baptism for infants – sprinkling/pouring – not for sins • Kingdom has not come • Miraculous gifts today • Organization of the church • Original sin • Salvation by faith only • Ten Commandments (other parts of the Law) in effect today

  4. Original Sin • Not that there was an “original sin” • But that this sin, or the guilt of it, has passed to all generations since Adam • The error ranges from “sin nature” to “total hereditary depravity”

  5. Original Sin • What happened in Genesis 3? • Sin came into the world • Saw things differently • Afraid to meet with God • Woman – painful childbirth, subject to husband • Man – cursed ground, life of toil and struggle • Both cast from Garden, not allowed to return • Things and people began to die

  6. Original Sin • What happened in Genesis 3? (Rom 5:12 NKJV) Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned;

  7. Original Sin • What does it mean, “because all sinned?” (Rom 3:23 NKJV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

  8. Original Sin • What happened “in Adam?” (1 Cor 15:22 NKJV) For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

  9. Original Sin • All are born to die physically… • But we are not born spiritually dead.

  10. The Error of Original Sin • Not known among the Jews • Does not appear until 2nd century when Irenaeus writes against the Gnostics

  11. The Error of Original Sin • Only then were the Scriptures used to try and prove the theory

  12. Result of Original Sin Error • It led to the condemnation of infants to hell. • This led to baptism of infants. • From this the idea had to be dealt with that Jesus must have inherited this from Mary. • Therefore, Mary must have had a miraculous birth also in order to be without it. • Calvin went much farther, giving it the description “Total Hereditary Depravity.”

  13. Result of Original Sin Error • This has led to the error that we cannot understand the Scriptures without Holy Spirit inspiration (or the help of someone who has it) • None of these things are taught in the Scriptures.

  14. The Solution? • Go back to the New Testament and… • (2 Tim 1:13 NKJV) Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

  15. The Solution? • Go back to the New Testament and prepare to meet God… • (2 Cor 5:10 NKJV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
