  3. Work placement aims • Work placements are an important part of developing your skills and experiences. This will be vital for when you leave school and apply for a job, college or university. • Flexible work placements are designed to allow each student a relevant and worthwhile experience. You can also receive SQA work placement qualification. • It is our aim to ensure everyone has experienced a work placement before leaving school.

  4. When can I go on a work placement? • Starting in June of S3 – S6. • Maximum of 5 days out of school (can be taken all together or broken up to 1 day a week for 5 weeks) • To minimise disruption to your learning in your classes at critical times, work placements are NOT allowed to take place between November and April. • Exceptional cases will be considered on an individual basis • Any work placements arranged for May / during study leave must be after all examinations are completed.

  5. How to find a work placement? There are two ways to find a work placement • Use the Work IT website to find employers that have already agreed to take on students for a work placement. • Approach an employer and ask if they would be willing to offer a work placement – a form of acceptance should then be completed by the employer.

  34. FAQs • The placement requires Personal Protection Equipment? • Most placements have PPE available for students to use, however the school has a small supply of overalls and safety shoes that pupils can borrow if they are required. • Why is the insurance certificate required? • Under the Health & Safety (Training and Employment) regulations 1990, students participating in work experience are regarded as the placement provider’s employees for the purpose of health & safety, therefore a prerequisite for permitting work experience placements is that the placement provider has Employer Liability Insurance in place. • What to do if my child is ill or has an appointment? • If for any reason your child cannot attend because of illness or has an appointment during the work placement please inform the employer firstly and then the school office.
