  1. Part 2 How to Use the Library Catalog at the Bradford Area Public Library Or What is OneScreenMcKean and how do I use it?

  2. Farther down the list there is a book I am interested in. I’m going to click on to make sure I look this up as well later.

  3. A subject search will have fewer results than a keyword search since a keyword searches for the word anywhere in the document. A subject searches only words that are listed as subjects for the items cataloged. Let’s search for “Dog” again, but this time with a subject search. While there are still a lot of results the total – 598 – is less than keyword search which gave us 855.

  4. There is a way to look back and compare the searches without having to do it over again. Go to the left-side menu and click on Library Search again. This will bring you back to the search page. There you will see a link on the right called “My Searches. Click on that link. This will give you a list of your previous searched.

  5. You can then see the history of everything we have searched for this session. Clicking on the search will re-open the old search.

  6. The final search method is for books written in a series. This is a nice feature as these types of books are very popular right now. Performing the search for “Dog” and clicking on gives us all the serials written about dogs of some type.

  7. The “Clifford” series for children is one example. We also found another book we’d like to check out, so let’s add it to our list.

  8. Which brings us back to our list. We are ready to look for these books now. How do we find the list we made? Remember the menu on the left? Click on the link called “Resource Lists” Click on “My List”

  9. Voila! Here is our list of books.

  10. This concludes the introduction to the Online Catalog at the Bradford Area Public library. Remember, this is an introduction. There are a lot more things you can do with this catalog so don’t be afraid to look around, click on some links, and experiment. You cannot “break” it or harm it in any way. And if you need help, just ask a librarian at the reference desk. That is what we are here for.
