Educational Planning Guide on-line www.cocalico.org Course Selection Sheets – Parent/Guardian Signature required (this is your responsibility ) Schedule changes for next year will be even more tightly enforced. – All changes must be made prior to the start of each semester as stated in the student handbook. Class of 2013

  3. Corrections to the EPG • Page 30-31 Please note that Applied Math for Business and Accounting 1 – will no longer count as a math credit beginning with the 2010/2011 school year. • Page 52 – Prerequisite for Algebra 2 112 should read: Algebra 1 102

  4. New Courses for 2010/2011 • Statistics • Clothing and Textiles 1 – (open to all students) • Family Consumer Science Skills –(required for Foods 1) • Foods 1 (prerequisite - Family Consumer Science Skills) • Environmental Science (did not run in 2009/2010) • Local Studies • Language Acquisition (formerly ESL)

  5. Courses we know will notbe offered for 2010/2011 • Studio Art (Arts & Metals) • **** Please be advised that some courses may not be offered during the 2010/2011 school year. The decision to not offer a course will be determined by lack of enough student requests. • Other classes may not be offered and will be determined by lack of enough student requests (Examples: Communication through Music, AP Chemistry, Economics).

  6. Choosing Elective Classes • Be sure to select and rank order at least7elective classes – remember you may not get your first, second, or even 5th choice, so make sure that you select classes you can live with, may enjoy, or try for the first time. • By the time you are a senior, you will have the opportunity to take all the classes you want provided you pass and meet the pre-requisites.

Next Steps • Practice for the SAT’s – use the online SAT Prep course a link to the website is located on the counseling office website at http://www.cocalico.k12.pa.us/hs/career_links.html • It is known aswww.bridges.com • Consider selecting the SAT prep class as an elective if you think college may be in your future • Take the SAT’s in the Spring of your Junior Year (they may be taken multiple times) • Most Colleges will take your highest combined score (they do not have to be on the same test date, you may mix and match) • Research careers and colleges using the career cruisingwebsiteit will not only provide you with valuable information, but is also where you do and log your graduation project

  8. Next Steps continued • If you are planning on enlisting in the military, be sure to take the ASVAB. This test is administered at Cocalico every December. • If you are planning to attend CTC ½ day as a junior (specific requirements must be met) be sure to tour the Brownstown Campus cluster programs in December of your Sophomore year. (Announcements will be made and parent permission is required) • Be sure you adhere to all deadlines/timelines and turn your applications in on time to assure yourself of the best possible chance for acceptance.

Graduation Project:Using Career Cruising • Career Cruising is a resource for students to research careers, colleges, trade schools, create resumes, explore financial aid, and specific program requirements. Cocalico students will also use it to complete their graduation project. Student Athletes • NCAA Clearinghouse/Eligibility for student athletes – should NOT be completed until the end of the junior year. • https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/student/index_student.html • Be sure to print off 2 copies of the transcript release form and turn them into the counseling office.

  12. Scheduling Appointment Times • Your scheduling appointment time to meet with your counselor will be posted outside the counseling office. Be sure to make note of your date and time.
