  4. Methylbenzene (also known as Toluene) • The methyl group pushes electrons towards the benzene ring • This increases the electron density on the ring • This makes methylbenzene more reactive than benzene

  5. Methoxybenzene (also known as anisole) • The oxygen has a lone pair of electrons that can become delocalised on the benzene ring • This increases the electron density on the ring • This makes methoxybenzenemore reactive than benzene
