  8. Luke 9:10-12 Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand 10 When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, 11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing. 12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, "Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here."

  9. Luke 9:13-17 Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand • 13 He replied, "You give them something to eat." They answered, "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd." 14 (About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." 15 The disciples did so, and everybody sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

  10. Luke 9:10-17 Be a Distributor, and Christ will give us his adequacy to meet the needs of people if we yield our inadequacy to him!

  11. Observation 1 The disciples were aware of the need.

  12. Observation 2 They desired to obey and please Jesus. (Luke 9:13)

  13. Observation 3 Problem couldn’t be solved on their own. (Luke 9:14)

  14. Why did Jesus ask them to do what they couldn’t?

  15. Observation 4 He gave them a role to play. (Luke 9:16)

  16. Now What? Lessons from the “Feeding of the 5000”.

  17. Table Discussion: • 1. Since there are so many needs in the world - - How do we know where to devote our time, efforts, and money? • 2. When is it right to say “No” to the needs and demands of people? • 3. What struggles have you had in surrendering yourself to be part the process of assessing the need, bringing your resources (time, talents, treasure) to Jesus, placing them in His hands, and receiving back the power to meet needs beyond yourself? • 4. How can we truly experience God’s blessing? • Are there conditions we must meet? What are they? • `
