  2. Facts about St. Isidore • Isidore was born to very poor yet very pious Catholic parents in Madrid, Spain. He was working his whole life. • He married a very religious woman named Maria Torribia (also known as Maria de la Cabeza). She also became a saint. • St. Isidore loved the poor and loved the animals. He fed a group of beggars. • He proclaimed as the patron of the National Rural Conference in the United States.

  3. More Facts • In 1622 he declared as a saint. • Also St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Francis Xavier, St. Teresa of Avila and St. Philip Neri. Together, the group is known in Spain as “The Five Saints.”

  4. Patronage • St. Isidore is known as the patron of Madrid, Spain as well as Leon, Saragossa, and Seville. • He is also considered the patron of farmers, peasants, day labourers, and rural communities.

  5. Birth and Death • He was born in the year 1070 • I couldn’t find the date when he was born. • He died on May 15, 1130 • He was 60 when he died.

  6. Feast Day • His Feast days were: • May 15 • October 25 • March 22

  7. His Prayer • God, through the intercession of St. Isidore, the holy Farmer, grant that we may overcome all feelings of pride. May we always serve You with that humility which pleases You, through his merits and example.

  8. He was beatified on May 2, 1619. • He was canonized on March 12, 1622

See, I give you every seed-bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food; and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food.” (Genesis 1:28a-30a).
