  2. Welcome To The Services Of The Dunlap church of Christ We Are Thankful For Your Presence!

  3. Welcome To The Services Of The Dunlap church of Christ Questions? Just Let Us Know!

  4. I Corinthians 4:1-7 “Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. (2) Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

  5. (3) But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. (4) For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

  6. (5) Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. (6) And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and toApollos for your sakes;”

  7. “That ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. (7) For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?”

  8. Do Creeds, Manuals and Disciplines Cause People To Differ?

  9. Do Creeds, Manuals and Disciplines Cause People To Differ?

  10. Do Creeds, Manuals and Disciplines Cause People To Differ? • Obviously! • Matthew 15:8,9 Jesus rejected such. • Did Paul instruct followers of Christ to establish or maintain unity? Did he not provide a platform for such? Eph.4:1-6 • For what did Paul beg in I Cor.1:10? • Paul recognized that differences MUST be a part of true religion. “For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.” I Corinthians 11:19

  11. May Following A “Special” Person Cause People To Differ? • Was following an apostle who did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the gospel forbidden? Galatians 2:11-14 • Was not a lady forbidden to permit her home to be used for propagating religious error? II John 9-11 • While it is true that we must be willing to learn from all who may direct us in the truth (Prov.23:23; John 8:32; 17:17; II Thess.2:10-12) it is also true that when they do not walk uprightly, we like Paul must differ with them.

  12. Have Some Differed Over Race Or Ethnic Issues? • Some may feel estranged because their background or upbringing is different. • Remember that the early Christians had to make religious changes. • The religion of parents is fine if it is in harmony with the teaching of the Bible and if it is the firm conviction of the person advocating the teaching.

  13. The apostles carried the good news to the world in their day, convicted the world of sin and called upon the world to follow the one faith that opposed religious division and differences. • Jude 15“To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” • Acts 15:9 “And put no difference (distinction) between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.” • Eph.2:11-22“reconcile both in one body”

  14. Should Truth Cause People To Differ? • Since religious differences are real, we must be sure that we justify our actions by the objective and authoritative message of inspired writers (II Tim.3:15-17; Col.3:17; Gal.1:6-10; II Jno.9-11). • The Sadducees differed with Jesus due to their lack of knowledge (Matthew 22:29). • Peter said that ignorance played a part in the unjust condemnation of Jesus (Acts 3:17). • Paul said ignorance was his problem (I Timothy 1:13)

  15. Ignorance will not suffice (Acts 17:30). • The responsibility of truth loving people (I Peter 2:15 “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:” & • II Timothy 4:1-5 “I charge thee therefore before God…”) .

  16. We must fight the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12; II Timothy 4:7). • Our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God (II Cor.10:4-6). • Some compare for justification (II Cor.10:12 “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”)

  17. II Corinthians 10:18 “For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.”

  18. Truly, We Are Not The Same • We know why we differ. • Since we are determined to have God’s approval for our attitude and actions, we cannot change if we are right. • Psa.119:115 “Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.” • If our differences are based upon man-made teachings, or because we follow a person, let it be shown that we may correct it.

  19. God’s Simple Plan HEAR (Romans 10:17) BELIEVE (John 8:24) REPENT (Luke 13:3) CONFESS (Rom.10:9-10) BAPTIZED (Gal. 3:27) ADDED TO THE CHURCH (Acts 2:41,47)

  20. Are You Wayward? “Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.” (Acts 8:22) “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16)
