Pieter Stalenhoef also notes that the major area of concern at the moment is the manufacturing sector since even though quite unexpectedly, it has posted its lowest level of economic activity in a decade. Pieter describes it as a slight contraction and believes that while the business investment may still be slow, it has already been brought to the attention of Dallas Fed President that US consumer spending retains the strength that is sure to push growth in the range of 2 to 2.5 percent throughout 2020 & early 2021. He further says that while there is still some concerns about inflation not hitting its target of 2 percent, the interest rates were left unchanged at the most recent Fed meeting following a series of cuts in the year 2019.
