  3. Comment conjuguer les verbes du groupe “-er” • Drop the –erending from the infinitive to get the stem • ex.Danser becomes dans- • Add the endings: • Je danse • Tudanses • Il danse • Nous dansons • Vousdansez • Ilsdansent (The last two letters are always silent for ils/elles.)

  4. Stem-changing –erverbs • Verbs ending in –ayerhave an optional stem change: • Payer • Je paie, tupaies, il paie, nous payons, vouspayez, ilspaient • OR • Je paye, tupayes, il paye, nous payons, vouspayez, ilspayent

  5. Stem-changing –erverbs • Verbs ending in –oyerand –uyerhave required stem changes: • Nettoyer(to clean) • Je nettoie, tunettoies, il nettoie, nous nettoyons, vousnettoyez, ilsnettoient • Ennuyer(to bore) • Je ennuie, tuennuies, il ennuie, nous ennuyons, vousennuyez, ilsennuient

  6. Stem-changing –erverbs • In –elerverbs, the L becomes doubled in all forms but the nous and vous forms. • Épeler(to spell) • J’épelle, tuépelles, il épelle, nous épelons, vousépelez, ilsépellent

  7. Stem-changing –erverbs • In –eterverbs, the T doubles in all forms except the nous and vousforms. • Hoqueter(to hiccup) • Je hoquette, tuhoquettes, il hoquette, nous hoquetons, voushoquetez, ilshoquettent

  8. Stem-changing –erverbs • In an e___er pattern, the first e changes to an èin all forms exceptnous and vous. (The space indicates 1+ consonants.) • Lever(to lift, to raise) • Je lève, tulèves, il lève, nous levons, vouslevez, ilslèvent

  9. Stem-changing –erverbs • In é___er verbs, the firsté becomes an è in all forms but the nous and vous forms. • Zébrer(to stripe) • Je zèbre, tuzèbres, il zèbre, nous zébrons, vouszébrez, ilszèbrent

  10. Négation avec ne…pas • You can negate une phrase française(a French sentence) by placing the words “ne” and “pas” around the verb. • Observe: • Je neveuxpasaller. • Ilsn’aimentpas le fromage. • Here are other options to experiment with: • Ne…jamais • Ne…rien • Ne…plus
