Why Operational Center ? • KMA still remains as an end-user of foreign meteorological satellites, mainly GMS, GOES and many others. • After the successful launch of the COMS in 2008, KMA will have responsibility in sharing COMS meteorological observations with world meteorological community. • An integrated system of experts and facilities to receive, analyze, and re-distribute COMS meteorological observations is needed.

  3. Function (1/3) • Data reception, analysis, and redistribution • Downlink of source data from COMS meteorological Imager (MI) • Generation of meteorological products • Broadcasting the products (LRIT/HRIT services for users) • Receiving foreign geostationary and polar orbit meteorological satellite observations

  4. Function (2/3) • Meteorological mission control of COMS • User Services ( domestic/foreign ) • Expansion of COMS user groups • Training for COMS users • User conferences for COMS users

  5. Function (3/3) • Planning for the 2nd Korean MetSat. • Collecting requirements from domestic/foreign users • Establishment of the user requirements • Research on the advanced MetSat. technology and experience • Budgeting • Recruiting new experts • Backup of SOCC/KARI

  13. What should be done ? Before the COMS launch, • Construction of the Center building • Establishment of ground segments • R/F System • Computers, Storages • Networks • Set-up of Met. Mission Control • Control of COMS MI (through SOCC of KARI) • Policy-making for user services

  14. Organization (Expected) • In 2008, total of 87 persons will work at the four divisions as follows; • General Services Division • Met. Satellite Policy Division • Data Analysis Division • Communication Division
