  1. Bell Work • Complete Problem 80(d only)- page 63(PAGE 11 OF SCIENTIFIC NOTEBOOK) • Kilo Hecto Deca Base Unit deci centi milli grams meters liters

  2. Bell Work • Complete Problem 3; page 15 (pg 9 of Sn) • Hint: convert the values for B and C from A.

  3. Metric Conversions Quiz Today

  4. SPI’s and CLE’s: • SPI 3221.Math.5 Use concepts of mass, length, area, and volume to estimate and solve real-world problems. • CLE 3221.Math.2 Utilize appropriate mathematical equations and processes to solve chemistry problems. • CLE 3221.2.1 Investigate the characteristic properties of matter.

  5. Objectives: • Review Metric Conversions • Formative Assessment/Metric Conversions • Literacy Strategy

  6. Metric Conversion Quiz • Please remove everything from your desk except a pencil and your Scientific Notebook. • Do not talk to anyone, if you have questions ask the teacher.

  7. Science Literacy Strategy • Review Metric Conversions • Formative Assessment/Metric Conversions • Literacy Strategy: Writing to Learn

  8. Writing To Learn • Read for two minutes (Read Aloud) • Think for two minutes (think about what you heard) • Write for five minutes. 1.Tell me what you thought about the article. 2. Will it be good for the environment? 3. How could it provide jobs in Memphis?

  9. New Super-efficient Power System A super-efficient micro-power system that powers, heats and cools homes is being developed in the UK. It works by burning vegetable oil to power a generator and provide electricity for the home. The waste heat from this process is then used to provide heating and hot water and is also converted to cool a fridge. At each step, the waste heat produced from engine gases and cooling is used elsewhere to recover the maximum amount of energy from the system. In addition to this, the plants that produce the fuel for the system absorb carbon as they grow – resulting in near zero overall carbon emissions.

  10. Home work • Tell me how you would explain to someone you were tutoring the process it takes to convert using the metric system.
