Developing Club Facilities • Assessment of what the club has - are we a club for all seasons, or just a seasonal club ? • Have we adequate training and playing facilities? • How are our dressing rooms, showers, toilets, referees rooms? • Do we host games? • What about covered accommodation and public toilets? • Do we require a hurling wall? Indoor or outdoor? • Do we require astro turf area for training in all weather? • Do we need a sports hall and catering facilities?

  3. Prioritising our needs • Better quality playing facilities? • Buildings which will compliment our existing facilities? • The purchase of extra land? • Signpost Booklet.

  4. Long Term Planning • Very necessary in order for a club to run it’s affairs on and off the field. • With financial constraints, clubs should be budgeting for developments over a few years.

  5. Selecting Personnel to Research our Priority Project • A sub committee with a defined Terms of Reference should be established. • If the project relates to land development or acquisition, consider local Teagasc adviser or soil consultants, in tandem with suitable club members. • If the project relates to building, perhaps somebody in construction ( retired or otherwise), local engineer, architect , or dynamic club people should be considered.

  6. Report to Club by Sub Group Including projected costs should include. • Details of examinations of similar nature projects carried out by other clubs. • Details on the contractors or builders in the area, their areas of expertise, levels of competence etc. • A projected costs analysis based on other clubs experience in order to give a clear picture of the clubs liability.

  7. After Planning Permission – Supervision of the Project; • Supervision to be carried out, preferably by a person with experience in the field – could even be a retired professional.

  8. Finance Committee • To raise the necessary funding.

  9. Pride of Place “No man can love his land and race if he has not pride in his native place.” • The value of voluntary input in terms of painting, cleaning, planting etc. • The greater the number of volunteers on the team, the better. • Protection against vandalism.
