  1. WPD+I+N Report, Catania, 23.02.2012 WPI / N: What remains to be done Uli Katz ECAP / Univ. Erlangen 23.02.2012

  2. WPI: Data and control • Major objectives: • create the framework for the handling of the neutrino telescope data • production of computing and storage models • set up a ready-to-implement solution for the neutrino telescope operation system • Deliverables: • D.I.1 Report on requirements and specifications of data distribution and computing models: 43 FTEMs, due month 12. • D.I.2 Report on solution for KM3NeT data distribution, computing and operation: 43 FTEMs, due month 32. • Partners: • U-Erlangen, INFN, CNRS, NOA-NESTOR, DIAS, FOM, UPVL U. Katz: WPI+N Report, Catania, Feb. 2012

  3. WPI: Data and control - Status • Report on requirements and specifications of data distribution and computing models • A lot has been done in the context of the work for WPD and WPF/L • Things need to be put together, some gaps remain to be filled • Report on solution for KM3NeT data distribution, computing and operation • Data distribution deep sea  shore  filter/trigger and filter output well understood and defined; computing resources for filter estimated. • Data distribution to users/labs/GRID/computing centers and computing models and resources for reconstruction, simulation, analysis need to be studied in more detail • Operation model: Needs to be written down, details to be decided U. Katz: WPI+N Report, Catania, Feb. 2012

  4. WPN: User support and impact assessment • Major objectives: • Investigation of needs and requests of the user communities (in and beyond KM3NeT) concerning data dissemination, data formats, computing support and infrastructure operation. • Assessment of the impact of the KM3NeT research infrastructure and the related facilities on the European Research Area (ERA). • Deliverables: • D.N.1 Report on user needs and requests: 25 FTEMs, due month 10. • D.N.2 Report on operation model and draft operation rules:26 FTEMs, due month 20. • D.N.3 Report on impact assessment activities: 33 FTEMs, due month 35. • Partners: • U-Erlangen, INFN, CEA, CNRS, NCSR-D, NOA-NESTOR, DIAS, FOM, CSIC, UVEG, UNIABDN, U-Leeds, U-Liverpool, U-Sheffield U. Katz: WPI+N Report, Catania, Feb. 2012

  5. WPN: User support and impact assessment - Status • Report on user needs and requests • “User Workshop” at VLVnT11 • Very detailed and specific objectives formulated in HEAP-MM proposal • Report on operation model and draft operation rules • Basic issue: KM3NeT will be an observatory as opposed to an experiment • May touch issues regulated in MoU • Depends on one vs. multi-site decision • Report on impact assessment activities • To answer the question “how useful was the Preparatory Phase program for the external recognition of the project?” U. Katz: WPI+N Report, Catania, Feb. 2012

  6. WPI / N – What remains to be done • Drafts of deliverables distrbuted • The WP coordinator takes care • Filling some gaps will be required • Many (all!) of you will be asked to comment/contribute • Time scale: next weeks • (drafts should go out until mid-April) • Deliverables ready before summer U. Katz: WPI+N Report, Catania, Feb. 2012
