  1. 6 Tips to Fuel Personal and Professional Growth

  2. Growing as a person can lead to a better quality of life. Yet, many people are often stuck in the same routine, content with the skills they already possess. Consider pushing yourself to grow new skills as you work toward a more enjoyable life in 2017. The tips mentioned below can help you and the people around you capitalize on growth opportunities this year.

  3. How Can I Grow? Try something new. Growth will help you expand your skillset and find out more about yourself. Take advantage of experiences like learning different skills or discovering new hobbies. This year, start by crossing off items on your bucket list. Experiment with new foods you wouldn’t normally try, or visit a national park. Even better, challenge yourself to meet new people at work.

  4. Read every day. Whether it’s a book, article or newspaper, reading keeps you informed about the world around you. Furthermore, many publications offer suggestions for ways the reader can live more resourcefully and efficiently. When choosing reading material, ask friends or co-workers to recommend material that has positively affected their lives. Once you’ve read the piece, make an effort to apply its advice in your everyday life.

  5. Volunteer your time. It’s easy to focus on taking care of ourselves first. However, you can grow as a community leader by positively impacting the lives of others. Take initiative to help others, and fellow community members will soon follow. Examples can include volunteering at a charity 5K race or helping a new family move in on your street.

  6. How Can I Help Others Grow? Working with like-minded people can help others succeed in their goals. Therefore, use your time and talents to help a friend or co-worker around you. Become a mentor. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Starting today, make an effort to use your strengths to help a co-worker. Perhaps this co-worker needs help with his or her public speaking skills. With permission, use this opportunity to share what you know about public speaking techniques and confidence. You’ll be surprised how much you teach yourself in the process!

  7. Help with a task. Take a few minutes to help a co-worker with an assignment—whether reviewing it or offering your own ideas. Simple tasks like this display care and convey passion to your co-workers. Plus, helping a co-worker promotes an openly collaborative mindset within your team at work. Provide an introduction. Introduce a friend to a new connection in your network. A simple introduction can expose this friend to opportunities for jobs, promotions and more. In the best case scenario, your friend will turn around and introduce you to someone in his or her network. Therefore, an introduction you make now may come back to benefit you down the road.
