What are pronouns? • Pronouns replace a noun in a sentence • Subject pronouns replace the subject (I, you, he/she… yo, tú, él/ella) • Object pronouns replace the object in the sentence… not doing the action (it, him, her….)
Los Directos • Answer the question who? What? In a sentence • We buy the dog • We buy it (it is what we buy) ME NOS TE OS LO/LA LOS/LAS
Los Indirectos • Answer the question TO/FOR WHOM? In a sentence • We buy the dog for Bart • We buy it for him(it is for him we buy) ME NOS TE OS LE LES
Otras reglas… • Pronouns are placed before the verb in spanish. • We sell it. • Lo vendemos. • However, you ‘can’ attach to an infinitive or a present participle. • Tenemos que venderlo. / Lo tenemos que vender. • Estamos vendiendolo. / Lo estamos vendiendo. • When must you attach?
If you have two pronouns back to back that start with ‘l’… the first one must be changed to ‘se’ • We buy it for him. • Se lo compramos.
Steps… • Identify Subject • Identify verb • Conjugate verb to match subject • Identify types of pronouns you have • Look at chart and decide what they are • Place in front of verb • Double check for the double ‘l’
Practica • I buy the cats. • Do you see him? • We are going to sell them. • I give them it. • They write it for her.
