Three Kinds of People1 Corinthians 2:12-13 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given by God, Which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

  12. Carnal1 Corinthians 3:1-3 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh (carnal), as to infants in Christ. I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men? S

Carnal1 Corinthians 3:1-3 • FRUIT • Life is self-centered • Legalistic attitude • Impure thoughts • Jealousy • Guilt • Worry • Discouragement • Critical Spirit • Frustration • No desire to witness • Ineffective prayer life • No desire for Bible Study • Loss of love for God • Disobeys God • Unbelief Self-Centered Life S – Self is back on throne – Christ is in life • Interests directed by self, often resulting in discord & frustration S The individual who professes to be a Christian but continues to practice sin should realize that he may not be a Christian at all, according to 1 John 2:3; 3:9.

The Holy Spirit Makes Spiritual Men A Spiritual Man is filled with the Spirit … by faith • Sincerely desire to be - Matt 5:6 • Confess your sins (repent) – 1 John 1:9 • Thank God that He has forgiven all of them • Claim God’s empowerment according to: • His Command – Ephesians 5:18 • His Promise – 1 John 5:14-15

The Holy Spirit Makes Spiritual Men • Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled (controlled and empowered) with the Spirit • 1 John 5:14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

  17. Prayer – Ask Him to Fill You Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have been in control of my life. As a result, I have sinned against You. I thank You for forgiving my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I now yield to Christ to again take control of the throne of my life. Please fill me with Your Spirit as You commanded and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus. As an expression of my faith, I now thank You for taking control of my life and for empowering me with Your Spirit.
