  2. NOTES: • This is a sample brief only and does not need to be copied verbatim. It does, however, reflect all items that INSURV inspectors need to see as part of the Gun Demo brief in order to ensure there are few, if any, questions prior to commencing the exercise. • This is not designed for any particular platform and should be tailored to fit the needs of your particular ship.

  4. Watch Stations • Include your watch bill for the evolution here

  5. Communications • Place Net 15 and Net 60 (or applicable net) on speakers near TAO and Mk160 operator for INSURV inspectors • You can include any other communication info here

  6. Mount Readiness • 5-inch Mt 51 and MK160 are fully operational • (Annotate any system discrepancies here) • 25mm Mt 251 and 252 (and 253, etc) fully operational • (Annotate any system discrepancies here) • CIWS Mt 21 and 22 (and 23, etc) fully operational … list any other applicable mounts and their status • All pre-fire checks were completed satisfactorily • (Provide status of pre-fire checklist to Senior C5 Inspector at the brief and completed copy before Demo) UNCLASS

  7. Sequence of Firing (This is provided as a generic example) • 5-inch (or 76mm, 57mm, 30mm) • Set HERO • CIWS • 25mm UNCLASS

  8. 5-inch Gun Loading Sequence (DDG example given here) MT 51 – 25 rounds • Drum will be loaded with 20 rounds • 20 Rounds BL&P • Lower Hoist will be loaded with 5 rounds • 2 Rounds ILLUM-MT • 2 Rounds HE-CVT • 1 Round KE-ET (Tailor round types to fit your intentions IAW INSURVINST and local instructions) UNCLASS

  9. 5-inch Gun Procedure (CG example given here) • Upload both mounts immediately following AD/SD DTE. • MT 51 will fire first. Upon completion of MT 51 demo, MT 52 will commence.

  10. 5-inch Gun Procedure (cont’d) (CG example given here) • MT 51 firing procedure: • 2 rounds single salvo (2 BL&P for spotting) • Then 22 rounds rapid and continuous (17 BL&P, 2 ILLUM-MT, 2 HE-CVT, 1 KEET) • MT 52 firing procedure: • 2 rounds single salvo (2 BL&P….) • Then 20 rounds rapid and continuous… (fill in rounds)

  11. 5-inch Gun Procedure (cont’d) • Include any specific ship procedures here. • (i.e. bearing/range of track to be built, range clear criteria, etc) • It is generally a good idea to include a screen shot of OPAREA and anticipated ship maneuvering.

CIWS Procedure • MT 21 is Block 1, MT 22 is Block 1B • Other Specific Configurations • Set HERO for uploading after firing 5-inch (or after DTE, etc), load xxx rounds • Will fire MT xx first, followed by….. • Will conduct PAC Fire IAW MIP 7112/xxx MRC X-xx • Explain course of fire • Transfer control to RCP/RCS • Fire remaining rounds from RCS (or conduct Surface Engagement and fire rounds) …etc…

  17. Casualty Commands CHECK FIRING • Stop firing due to fouled range or unsafe condition. • Gun WILL stay on target, firing circuit interrupted. CEASE FIRE • Exercise complete, stop engagement. • Target disengaged, gun stays on last firing bearing. RESUME FIRE • Condition that warranted Hold/Check fire no longer exists. Only the CO can Resume Firing. (Most ships include some reminders on casualty commands but it is not required by INSURV)

  18. Safety • Event Safe Fire Parameters for 5-inch Gun • 30,000 yards – Range clear on the firing bearing • 42,000 feet – Altitude clear about the firing bearing • +/-15 degrees – Area clear about the firing bearing – “Gun Target Line” • Include safety criteria for remaining guns

  19. ORM • (Include any Risk Management if you desire (not required).
