  6. Sounds Smells Tastes Looks Feels Use the 5 senses to describe how something or someone:

  7. 2. Use Imagery Details that allow the reader to see in his or her mind the same thing you see in yours

  8. 3. Use Specific Descriptive Words • Instead of “good” use: • Soothing • Aromatic • Scrumptious • Silky • Attractive

  9. 4. Use figurative language Examples: • Similes • Metaphors

  10. Simile Makes a comparison using “like” or “as” Example: Johnny is as stubborn as a mule.

  11. Metaphor Makes a comparison of two unlikely things without using “like” or “as” Example: Don’t be such a pig. Leave some for the rest of us.

  12. Be careful!!! DESCRIBE--Do not tell a story!!!
