    1. THREE MONTH PATIENT SATISFACTION WITH FERMATHRONTM: PROSPECTIVE RESULTS OF 311 PATIENTS Hyaluronic acid can be used to treat mild osteoarthritis of the knee. Little is known on patient satisfaction and safety of FermathronTM (Hyaltec LTD, Edingburgh, Scotland) a solution of hyaluronate derived from continous bacterial fermentation. Discussion • No controls were used in this prospective study • The possible pathophysiological mechanisms to understand why hyaluronic acid might relief symptoms are largely unknown • However, a majority of patients is satisfied with the treatment results • FermathronTM appears to be safe and give a significant reduction in perceived pain, joint stifness and limitations in functioning
