Odds/ends • First Day Packets: sign/return forms by Friday **Pink Form (look at back for medical info, even if NO medical info, must initial ON the back) • District Website: find Student Rights/ Responsibilities Handbook which MUST be read so you can sign off on the form • Attendance: 5 unexcused tardies= letter; 10 unexcused tardies=suspension

Odds/ends • Cafeteria open 8:15, playground opens 8:30 • Absence: call 24 hour line 623.445.4390 by 9AM or else you’ll receive an automated call • Volunteer training: need it for parties, field trips only have to attend 1 training • Parking Lot/Pick-up requirements: ~please do NOT park along the street to pickup your child, new bus bay (need clearance)

  4. Odds/ends • Parent Messages: to cut down on distractions the office will not disrupt our classes for late items or messages. Please plan accordingly. • Parties: 4 times a year; birthdays: done at lunch • 21st Century program: after school program with extra-curricular activities, by invitation only • Thursdays: schedule change, extra specials in place of the RTI block (intervention block)

Parent Communication • Planners: parents sign every night, students get a ticket per signature for a weekly drawing, missing work/behavior notes • Mountainshadows.dvusd.org • Email update: will receive notification when website is updated for the week, other last minute events; see hallway to sign up • Ps.dvusd.org/public: check grades on weekly basis;

Leadership academy • Embed opportunities throughout day • Emphasis on 7 Habits: Be proactive; Begin with the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First to Understand, Then To Be Understood; Synergize; Sharpen the Saw • Every student is capable of success, No Exceptions! • Increases students’ self-confidence, teamwork, initiative, creativity, leadership, problem-solving, communication, diversity awareness and academic performance • Improve school culture

Discipline--Classroom • Behavior Card: ~If students are caught being responsible/kind, earn positive on behavior card ~3 warnings= infraction note in planner/on behavior card • 8 days no infractions= Can Do Crew (free choice, academic) • If no Can Do Crew then teacher chooses activity • Quarterly reward for behavior card; Coyote Cash, Tickets Discipline—PBIS (School-wide) • Matrix • Expectations in all areas of campus

Homework • Nightly • Reading: weekly Reading Logs due Thurs; may be other types of skill based review • Math: review worksheets or study math facts • Sci/SS: study guides and studying for tests • Can read the SS book at home for the reading log • All homework due the following day unless otherwise noted • On time= 100%; 1 day late= 50%; 2+ days late= 0%

Quizzes/Tests • At the end of lessons or units • Length depends on content and student progression • Students will be informed ahead of time • All tests/quizzes that receive 69% or lower will need to be signed by a parent • All tests and quizzes will be kept in the students’ portfolio at school
