  1. History of Religion & Philosophy Religion Religion is something that almost all of humanity, if not all, has taken part in. As for its history, one might say that it began with the written word. The two go hand in hand chronologically speaking. The oldest texts discovered speak of deities and the afterlife. Nietzsche wrote of a superman who would not need to find meaning in his life who would accept it as nothing more than the number of his years on earth. Nietzsche said that God is dead. History says that man has never existed without god. Philosophy Philosophy like religion has played a huge role in the history of mankind. It is mans examination of himself and the world around him. Why then does philosophy constantly change? Can one learn from older philosophies, or does man need to keep advancing toward new and different ways of thinking in order to keep up with his culture? Each eras philosophy reveals a part of its culture. Dostoyevsky said it is not the brains that matter most, but that which guides them---the character, the heart, generous qualities, progressive ideas.
