  1. Independence School District Second Grade Writing Assessment A Fall 2012 – Sessions 1, 2, & 3

  2. 2nd Grade Writing Assessment A Today we will begin working on a writing assessment that all 2nd graders will complete. This is your chance to demonstrate your skills as a writer.

  3. Your assignment: You will watch a video and read an article about the food at Wendy’s restaurants. Write your opinion about what you would order at Wendy’s and tell why.

  4. Steps you will follow: In order to help you plan and write about what you would order, you will do all of the following: • Watch a video and answer questions. • Read an article and answer questions. • Plan, write, and revise your writing.

  5. 2nd Grade Writing Assessment A • Clear EVERYTHING off your desk except: • Pencil • Response Sheet 1 • (teacher will hand this out) • Write your name at the top of your sheet.

  6. Session 1 Call students together at the carpet.

  7. Video: Healthy Snacks 5 minutes

  8. Answer Questions 20 minutes • What is this video about? • Why is this information important? • What did I learn? • What key details did I find in the video? Your teacher will collect your responses when the time is up.

  9. Session 2 Students will sit at their desks.

  10. 2nd Grade Writing Assessment A • Clear EVERYTHING off your desk except: • Pencil • Wendy’s article • (Teacher will hand this out) • Write your name at the top of your sheet.

  11. Directions • Carefully read the about Wendy’s article. You can underline and make notes in your article. • You will have about 30 minutes to complete the reading and answer the questions. • You may begin. Your teacher will hand out response sheets as you are reading.

  12. Answer Questions 30 minutes • What is this article about? • Why is this information important? • What did I learn? • What key details did I find in the text? Your teacher will collect your responses when the time is up.

  13. Session 3 Students will sit at their desks.

  14. 2nd Grade Writing Assessment A • Clear EVERYTHING off your desk except: • Pencil • Wendy’s article and Response Sheets 1 & 2 • (Teacher will hand these out) • Write your name at the top of your sheet.

  15. Your Writing Imagine that you are at Wendy’s and you get to order a lunch. What food will you order and why? Useimportant details from the video and the article to explain your thinking. Your teachers will collect your Response Sheets and your writing when you are finished.

  16. You may begin 60 minutes • Decide your opinion. • Plan your writing. • Put your thinking all together in your writing. • Read your writing to yourself. • Revise and edit your writing as needed to make it your personal best!
