The Philippine Commission on Elections (Comelec) is providing over 230,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) facing removal from the official overseas voters list an opportunity to remain and vote in the upcoming May 2013 elections. The Comelec resolution states that 238,557 overseas absentee voters (OAV) will be excluded due to failure to vote in the 2007 and 2010 elections. However, the Comelec has extended the deadline until December 21 for these absent voters to express their intent to vote in the next elections to be retained in the National Registry of Overseas Absentee Voting (NROAV). Either the Comelec or the Department of Foreign Affairs will publish the names of those to be dropped by December 21, and OFWs are required to file their manifestations. This process recognizes the challenges OFWs face as they cannot be in the Philippines and abroad simultaneously. Failure to vote consecutively in two national elections leads to removal from the voters list. Make your voice count for the future of the country!
