  2. Our Coyhaique y and La Tapera Fishing Program: Location: Aisen Province in the Chilean Patagonia, rivers and lakes within 30 minutes to two hours of Coyhaique or in the proximity of the town of Tapera Species available: Brown trout, rainbow trout and chinook salmon Fishing Techniques: Fly fishing or Spin fishing, wading rivers and lakes Best Dates:Dry fly fishing for trout: December - March Chinook salmón fishing: December- January Lodging: During the first part of our program, we will be staying at a comfortable country house outside of the town of Coyhaique in double rooms with shared bathrooms. Guests will enjoy home style meals accompanied by excellent Chilean wines. In la Tapera, given the limited offering in this remote area the lodging will be modest but adequate. Guests will stay in a small riverside cabin sharing double rooms. In any case, it will be better than camping. How to get there: Guests will fly commercial airlines into Santiago and conitnue on to Balmaceda. Here they we will be greeted by our guides and transferred by road to Coyhaique. (45 minutes aprox).

  3. The Fishing: With Coyhaique as our center of operations during the first part of the trip, we will fish some of the best rivers and lakes in the area choosing from waters including the Emperador Guillermo, the Mañihuales, the Huemules, or the Ñirehuao rivers and a number of lakes that can provide fantastic fishing for larger trout. During the off-season our local guides use their free time to explore new water and to negotiate exclusive access with farmers and ranchers to waters bordered by private properties. As a result, we have a wide selection of seldom fished waters to choose from. During our outings, the target species will include the abundant brown and rainbow trout in the above mentioned waters or the large chinook salmon that run up rivers such as the Simpson, the Huemules or the Blanco every year. These impressive fish can reach sizes of over 50 lbs and provide fishing that rival many of the better king rivers in Alaska. The second part of our program takes us to the remote reaches of Aisen in the area known as La Tapera some 4 plus hours away from Coyhaique. Here rivers such as the Caceres or Cisnes provide fishing reminiscent of what Montana probably once was when trout seldom saw a an artificial fly and on a good day you would lose count of how many fish you caught sometime after 20and on a slow day you still managed bring a half a dozen 14 to 20 inchers to the net.
