  2. This Webinar Will Cover: • Introduction • Including people with disabilities (including autism) • Including all genders and LGB inclusion, • Flexible volunteering • Useful resources/support • Time for questions/comments throughout.

Introduction • Defining Features of Woodcraft Folk Provision • The activities that Woodcraft Folk provides for its young members has many similarities with the provision offered by other voluntary organisations for children and young people. However, it is expected that a Woodcraft Folk group, regardless of the age group or the nature of the community it serves, will seek to: •  be inclusive of children & young people regardless of ethnicity, faith, gender, sexuality, family circumstances or any additional needs

Including people with disabilities • Whole range of disabilities • Example activities around disability awareness can be found on the website. • Everyone is different • Ask the young person/child what they want to do • Games can be adapted to fit – make whole group aware of risks/to take care whilst running

Including people with autism • Structure is important – keep the session structure similar each week to avoid causing confusion/not what people are used to. • Structure example: starting with a circle, saying the creed, sharing individual news from the week, a game then into craft activity or debating activity then closing circle, singing link your hands together and then going home • Planning ahead can help young people with autism know what to expect from each session they attend and help them feel more confident in attending.

Including all genders • All people have a right to be treated as the gender with which they identify, regardless of what (if any) medical or legal steps they have taken.  • Remember to ask about pronouns, how the person is feeling - preferred pronouns could be included in health/consent form… • Use gender-neutral language e.g. chairperson, don’t always assume a doctor is a male etc. • Actively stop discrimination/bullying from happening. Pull people up if overhear it during group and address it as a group during an activity? • Rainbow Resources sexuality and gender pages 21-25 tips for facilitators when dealing with bullying/discrimination in groups

Including all genders • Bedroom/tent sharing/ changing spaces/toilets etc. • Make sure all are comfortable with the sleeping arrangements • What to do if parents have issues with the decisions? • Should be suitable private changing and toilet facilities for all young people in our organisation • Trans inclusion policy – https://woodcraft.org.uk/trans-inclusion

  8. LGBT inclusion • Sessions for elfins about different families • Sessions about equality… • IFM rainbow resources has lots of great activities about sexuality as well as gender and this is all available online.

  9. Flexible volunteering • A wide range of volunteers being included in our groups / (i.e. including adults from a variety of circumstances). • Putting the young people first and making sure volunteers are from all different backgrounds and circumstances
