  1. Arrival Quietly enter building and greet staff in reception. Follow direction. Enter classroom sensibly. Sit in allocated seat. Listen to instructions.

  2. Entering the classroom Arrive on time Line up in silence Enter without talking Sit in own seat Complete starter activity

  3. Handing in work There are two trays on the teacher’s desk Hand in homework assignments to the tray marked ‘Homework’ Hand in class work assignments to the tray marked ‘class work’

  4. During the lesson Listen to the teacher with full attention. Sit properly without talking Don’t write anything during instruction.  You will be given time for taking notes. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand.  After instruction, make sure you understand the concept.  If not, ask questions.

  5. Groupwork Stay in your allotted group You are responsible for your own work. Ask your team members for help if you have a question. Help if you are asked for help. Ask for help from the teacher only when the group agrees on the same question.

  6. Equipment You should arrive at each lesson with pens, pencils and a ruler If you forget them you can ask to borrow one of my marked items You must give one of your shoes as collateral and will get it back when you return the equipment

  7. Equipment (2) You should arrive at each lesson with pens, pencils and a ruler If you forget them you can ask to borrow one of my marked items Failing to bring your own equipment means you help me tidy up at the end of the lesson

  8. Discussions During discussions listen to the speaker and allow them to finish If you wish to speak, raise your hand instead of interrupting Remember everyone is entitled to their opinion so there are to be no put-downs Use polite language throughout the discussion

  9. Collecting materials All equipment is in labelled drawers – you have been shown where it is Raise a pencil or pen in the air if you need to leave your seat to get equipment. When I acknowledge you, collect your equipment without disturbing anyone and return to your chair. When you have finished, return the equipment to its correct place

  10. When you are late Knock on the door and wait in silence to be greeted Go straight to your seat without talking and get on with the starter activity in silence I will give you instructions for the lesson activity within ten minutes At the end of the lesson stay behind to explain to me why you were late

  11. Getting the teacher’s attention Look at the teacher Raise your hand Wait until the teacher says your name Politely ask them your question

  12. Getting the teacher’s attention (2) Raise your book if you need help with work Raise your hand if you need to speak Raise two hands if you need to use the toilet

  13. At the end of the lesson Clean your work area and place all equipment where you got it from Sit silently facing the front After the bell rings, wait until the teacher says you can go After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave in silence. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall.

  14. Passing books and papers Pass books/papers across, not forward Lay papers on neighbor’s desk Neighbors repeat this until all papers reach the last row. Teacher will collect from last row.

  15. When the teacher leaves the room There will be times when I must leave the classroom Continue working on your assignment as usual. No talking, please.

  16. At the end of an activity I will count down from ‘TEN’ to ‘ONE’ When you hear me shout ‘TEN’ you need to start finishing off what you are doing and return to your seat By the time I reach ‘ONE’ you need to be sat in your seat, facing me in silence.

  17. Homework There are three parts to homework – taking it home, completing it and bringing it back Homework will be collected from your desk at the start of the lesson If you haven’t completed it you will spend the next break doing it

  18. Break Choose your break activity. Go to activity area with staff member. Take part in activity. Stop activity when asked. Return to classroom.

  19. Lunch Listen to instructions Line up in silence Leave room sensibly and move to chosen area Socialise and act appropriately Return to classroom on time

  20. Toilet breaks You are expected to use the toilet during break time No toilet breaks during first ten minutes of the lesson You will have three toilet passes for the whole half term Use them wisely!

  21. Getting on the Minibus Listen to instructions. Line up outside of bus. Sit in allocated seats. Put seatbelts on properly and keep them on until told to take them off.

  22. Saying sorry Look at the person Use a polite voice Tell them WHY you’re sorry Say what you’ll do next time or how you’ll put it right

  23. Giving criticism Look at the person Use a polite voice Say something positive Say what is wrong and why Listen to their answer

  24. When you are absent Get the assignments from your classmates or the teacher. Do the work at home. If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform the teacher and arrange a time to make up the test after school. You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments.

  25. Missed assignments You will find copies of all assignments in a folder labeled “missed assignments” located on the table or on my website. It is your responsibility to make up all missed assignments.
