  1. LCLS-II Charge Measurement Tor Raubenheimer One’s Day

  2. Toroids and Faraday Cups • Toroids and faraday cups used to establish absolute charge values • LCLS-I does not heavily use toroids for beam physics and they are not well calibrated • Would be nice to fix this • Toroids also used for BCS and MPS functions • Maintain BCS function. • ?MPS function could be implemented with BPMs? • LCLS-I Faraday cup design inadequate for absolute charge measurements

  3. LCLS-II Injector Diagnostic Layout IM03b FC03b FC03b IM02b FCS1b FCG1b • Present concept for injector charge diagnostics • 4 faraday cups: 2 at 6 MeV, one at 60 MeV and one in 135 MeV spectrometer • 2 Toriods: IM02b and IM03b

  4. LCLS-II Accelerator for 250 pC, 120 Hz RF gun-2 RF gun-1 existing L0 L0 IM02b IMBC1Ob und-hall-1 IM03b LCLS-I X X L1 BC1 L2 BC2 L3 L1 BC1 L2 BC2 L3 3-15 GeV one more km of linac Sector-20 wall HXR 4-14 GeV bypass line SXR und-hall-2 Two Toroids in injector, one in linac, 4 in undulators

  5. Absolute Charge Calibration • New Faraday cups • 6 MeV: more than 99% charge capture versus less than ~80% for LCLS-I design • 135 MeV: more than 98% charge capture • Externally calibrated toroid– perhaps inserted into BC1
