  3. 2001 LiturgiamAuthenticam • All modern language translations of Vatican documents adhere more closely to the Latin words • 2002 Roman Missal 3rd Ed – in Latin: English translation completed by 2011

  4. Roman Missal 3rd Ed • change in language not in ritual • vocab, syntax and sentence structure markedly different – “elevated style”

  5. Implications • ecumenical texts e.g. Gloria, Holy, Holy • people will need to learn new mass parts • existing musical settings will be obsolete

  6. Introducing the Roman Missal 3rd Ed • Jan 2011 singing the new texts • Pentecost 2011 (June 14) spoken parts gradually introduced • Nov 1 2011 – mandatory implementation of new texts
