  5. Summary of Research Findings Preparation: Yearly Goals Personal Goals Set Criteria for class Why are the first day so critical? Establishment of Procedures Class guidelines Teacher Expectation Be Realistic!

  6. Summary of Research Findings Consistency: Never Let Up! Routines are practiced. Tips from the Professionals: What age is the class? Seniors act differently than freshman. Greet students at the door. Ice Breckers (i.e. Background information)

Basic Guidelines to success on the first Days: Inform the Students Handouts of guidelines and specific course requirements Explain classroom standards and guidelines Review daily procedures for course Regularity is the key Make a seating chart the first week Assign homework that can be graded Establish a relationship Learn the students’ names quickly and correctly Greet at the door with an inviting smile Provide a creative personal questionnaire Tell a little about yourself

  8. Always Remember! One of the most important things to do is to be able to change. Just because a tactic works one year does not mean it will always be effective. Adaptability for the better is the goal! Your personality and own philosophies will determine how you start the first days of school.
