What is Cloud-based SAP HANA Data Lake – Features and Benefits SAP launched HDL (HANA Data Lake) as a part of the cost-effective cloud services in April 2020. It provides affordable storage options including SAP HANA native storage extensions. There is also the advantage of keeping current and critical data in memory which can be processed in real-time while moving data that is frequently used but not daily to the SAP HANA Native Storage Extension (NSE). Old data which is still useful and sometimes pulled out can be accessed from the HANA Data Lake (IQ). The advantage of this data-tiering is that the data is stored based on what is needed and the frequency, thereby reducing costs.
The SAP data lake is relational data lake. In effect, it means that the SAP IQ database that is deployed in the cloud provides processing speeds and capabilities that are the same as AWS and Microsoft Azure. The data lake also offers excellent 10x compression of existing data. The data lake can store both structured and unstructured data. Thus, the SAP data lake can be enabled either in the current HANA Cloud instance or maximized in a new HANA Cloud instance.
Features of SAP Data lake• Based on SAP IQ technology• Highly elastic and works independently of HANA DB.• Provides seamless access to cloud storage services• Excellent high-performing ability to analyze data• Provisioned to automatically complement and be administered with HANA Cloud• Enabled for high-speed ingestion.
Benefits of SAP Data Lake• Enabling ingestion of any type of data.• Low Total Cost of Ownership• Easy to configure and use• Columnar architecture for fast analytic processingFinally, given all these features and benefits, users stand to gain the most from the SAP data lake
