  2. 1) They give you the partition:  The Jacksonian Period (1824-1828) has been celebrated as the era of the “common man.” To what extent did this period live up to its characterization? Consider TWO of the following in your response. • Economic development • Politics • Reform movements

  3. Strategy: You follow it ALWAYS (one column for each paragraph)

  4. 2) They give you partition,but it is complex: Analyze the cultural and economic responses of TWO of the following groups to the Indians of North America before 1750. • British • French • Spanish

  5. Strategy: You follow it ALWAYS, but add an extra row to your chart

  6. 3) Compare and contrast questions: Compare and contrast the ways in which economic development affected politics in Massachusetts and Virginia in the period from 1607 to 1750.

  7. Strategy: • One paragraph for each topic • Use the conclusion to reinforce similarities and differences

  8. 4) Make your own partition questions: • Choose 2 or 3 topics Analyze the reasons for the Anti-Federalists’ opposition to ratifying the Constitution. Analyze the effectiveness of political compromise in reducing sectional tension in the period 1820-1861.

  9. Strategy: • Know the content well • Choose topics that are broad enough for a full paragraph

  10. Change over time How did the French and Indian War change the relationship between England and its American colonies?

  11. Strategy: -One before paragraph, one after paragraph -One before paragraph, one event paragraph, one after paragraph -Choose two or three significant events to divide a time period

  12. Partition by region Analyze the impact of the Atlantic trade routes established in the mid 1600s on economic development in the British North American colonies. Consider the period 1650-1750.

  13. Strategy: consider regional trends of the time period (ex: NE/Middle/South, North/South, North/South/West, etc.)

  14. If necessary, define your terms in a paragraph (complex historical concept) Analyze the impact of the market revolution (1815-1860) on the economies of TWO of the following regions: • The Northeast • The Midwest • The South Analyze the impact of the American Revolution on both slavery and the status of women in the period from 1775-1800.

  15. Strategy: -provide key contextual information to prep reader for your analysis -look for the word IMPACT in the prompt

  16. Cause and effect Analyze the ways in which British imperial policies between 1763 and 1776 intensified colonists’ resistance to British rule and their commitment to republican values.

  17. Strategy: simple cause and effect prompts can be disguised- make sure to thoroughly read the prompt

  18. Assess the validity, evaluate the accuracy (if partition is not obvious- regions, etc.): “The Union’s greatest advantage in the Civil War was Abraham Lincoln”. Assess the validity of this statement.

  19. Strategy: -Two paragraphs: one for each side -Back up the position you took in your thesis

  20. Curve Ball To what extent was the Constitution a radical departure from the Articles of Confederation?

  21. Strategy: combine change over time AND compare/contrast

  22. Your Homework Assignment • Chart the following prompt • Write an introduction "Geography was the primary factor in shaping the development of British colonies in North America." Assess the validity of this statement for the late 1600s.
