  1. 3-D Teen Parenting With Jeff and Debi Sabotin, Orlando 2011 FLORIDA DISCIPLESHIP CONFERENCE - ORLANDO

  2. The Sabotin Family

  3. Opening Survey • Parents with teens? • Parents not yet teens? • Parents of teens not baptized? • Parents with teens baptized?

  4. No Secret Sauce In This Lesson.

  5. Main Points • Love God. • Love your spouse. • Love your children. • Love others.

  6. A “Gem” We Were Given Early On. Your children will see your life and they will try to match it up with what they hear in Church. Strive to genuinely live your life as a disciple. In other words, “Don’t be a hypocrite.”

  7. What is your first rule as a disciple?

  8. 1. Love God. Matthew 22:36-39 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

  9. 1 Peter 2:1-3. • 1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

  10. Is This Your Quiet Times?

  11. Keep It Fresh. • Time • Place • Subject • Journal • Forms of Media

  12. 2. Love Your Spouse. Matthew 22:39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

  13. Are you treating your spouse like Jesus would?

  14. Love Your Enemies. Matthew 5:43-46. 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

  15. Men Ephesians 5:25-27. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

  16. Women Ephesians 5:22-24. 22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

  17. Why? • Because God said so… • Teen has less baggage to deal with personally. • You are convincing your teen, through your life, that this is the right thing to do.

  18. Get With Someone. • Eight years ago married couples stopped getting with another couple for help. • Commit to getting with another couple at least every 2 weeks.

  19. 3. Love Your Children. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

  20. Fix Eyes On Jesus Hebrews 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  21. 4. Love Other People • Matt 22:39 • Your children should see you getting with disciples and non-disciples.

  22. Conclusion • Love God • Love Your Spouse • Love Your Children • Love Others
